Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours - Modular Records - 2008
Went and picked this bad boy up in Lincoln Park today (couldn’t find it downtown yesterday) and I am a fan for sure. Recently in music there has been a rather large movement of bands that are kind of modern takes on 80s sounds (The Teenagers, M83, Hot Chip), and these guys certainly fall into that arena. This album just has 80s dance party written all over it, and it just has a sweet ass groove from beginning to end. It probably trends more to the cleaner New Order lines than some of these other modern-retro kinds of bands, and that certainly isn’t a bad thing. These guys are playing here at the Abbey Pub with Black Kids in May and I am fucking pumped about that show for sure (tix).

80s dance party, I told you. The guitars thrown in are kind of what reminded me a little bit of New Order (something like “Crystal”), just a great groove with a little dash of rock out thrown in there. But they certainly are all about the groove and the dance on this track, they never really try to rock it out, but they do throw in some nice hooks at the end. It is a great track though, and you know that people are clapping along to this live.

I think this song has a really cool sound, and they throw in some nice flanger effects into the end of the song, which always results in a sound like you are riding on a sonic wave of electric dancing (feel free to use that on the record cover, guys).
I definitely recommend picking this album up if you are into M83 or LCD or other modern dance-ish kinds of music. These guys, like LCD, have done a Fabric mix for the famous club in London. However, like I said, these guys are a little more 80s/poppy sounding than LCD, but if you are into those kinds of things, or if you just feel like fucking dancing, then check it out babies.
