Rangers Home Opener - 4/8/08

Posted April 9th, 2008 by Daigle · No Comments

Marcus and I went out to the Texas Rangers’ home opener vs. the Baltimore Orioles yesterday, and just as last year, Opening Day is a real treat. Everyone is fired up, the stadium is completely full (this photo was the pregame festivities and not eveyone had filtered in yet), and this year the weather was just about ideal. Temperature in the mid 70s, though with quite a few clouds but the sun did manage to break through for periods of time.

I love the Rangers, but the Rangers stink. Opening Day was no difference with Jason Jennings getting absolutely destroyed, allowing another two home runs (in two starts and 9.2 IP, he has allowed 3 HR total), and over those two stars is allowing the opposition to hit .300/.391/.675 with a 7.45 ERA and 1.96 WHIP. Yuck. Additionally, there were some errors, and the Rangers didn’t hit.

Surprise, surprise, the Rangers lost. A big source of irritation for me so far this year is Marlon Byrd. Because Marlon Byrd effing stinks, man. So far, he is hitting .000/.118/.000 with an OPS+ of -64. The only reason his OBP is registering at all is due to two walks. This is over 17 PA and 15 ABs. Meanwhile RoBotts keeps riding the pine (my nickname for Jason Botts). I am beginning to grow very weary of Ron Washington’s decision making process. Jury is still out on him.

At any rate, many games left in our plan, and many other games to be had at the park. I can’t wait!
