The Fairline Parkway – A Memory Of Open Spaces – Kora Records – 2008

Stepping in with a quite solid sophomore album is DC’s The Fairline Parkway, with their release “Memory of Open Spaces” due out May 27th on Kora Records. They have a very safe, simple sound but it really works and is very catchy. It is kind of a chilled out groove with some sugary trumpets and chimes thrown in on the top of it. The sound kind of strikes me as very much in the same vein as the Swedish invasion bands of nowadays, with a lot of instrumentation and smooth melodies and female backup “doo-doo-doo”s. It also kind of reminds me a little of some of the softer Yo La Tengo stuff. The album is catchy and quite good, and I think it will definitely be worth checking out when it drops this May, so be on the lookout. It seems like this is a limited cut release of 700 for the CD also, but it will also be available digitally at the usual suspects.
