This is a band I discovered kind of randomly several years ago, and they have since kind of disappeared and I'm not really sure what is going on with them, if anything anymore. They are a Norweigian band who released their last album back in 2004, and have played a few concerts recently in Norway but nothing major, and I haven't really seen any official word on a new album or anything really. The singer Erlend Øye was working in another band, The Whitest Boy Alive, whom I'm not that familiar with, but what I have heard has ...

Lil' Wayne had killer guest spots on two of my favorite hip-hop tracks from last year: Jay-Z's "Hello Brooklyn" and Kanye West's "Barry Bonds". However, much like when I purchased Grand Theft Auto III, I hadn't experienced the first two installments of the trilogy, so I approached Tha Carter III with a fairly open mind.

No real intellect behind this post, however this trailer looks like Baz Luhrmann & Frank Miller had a bastard child on celluloid. Hollywood is doing a shitty job of remaking films, this is Repo Man with CGI.

You listen to me, you son-of-a-bitch! There's a kid out there usin' his car to kill people, not that it's such a big deal since it seems to be your gang he's got it in for... so, if you guys try to take the law into your own hands, and that killer turns up dead, I'm gonna see you all sniffin' cyanide in the Arizona gas chamber.
Some people define wraith as a ghost, however my definition extends to alternate definition b: A fucking odd movie that confused and creeped the hell out of me as a kid. Not since The ...

Sigur Ros - Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Enadalaust - Beggars - 2008
One of the higher profile releases so far this year is certainly this new album from Iceland's Sigur Ros. The kings of dramatic, atmospheric pop have taken a bit of a change in direction on this album, with a few more focused numbers, but largely retains their sweet natured charm of their dramatic soundscapes and they deliver a very solid record.

I wasn't really going to do a review on this, because it kind of exists outside of the realm of reviews and regular albums that have come out this year simply because of the way it is put together. But since this has been such a controversial release that has been praised by many and panned by many as well, I thought I would throw in my two cents on this album. It was released last week Radiohead style and it is certainly an album everyone should go ahead and pick up, considering the pay what you want ...

Well this week's throwback concerns both the band and the movie about the band. I finally got to see Anton Corbijn's biopic about Ian Curtis this week (called "Control") and I thought what better to tackle as a throwback for the week than a throwback to this short-lived but great band. As I'm sure you know, Joy Division was a band in England back in the late 70s that was critical in the rise of the post-punk movement, creating a very unique and brooding sound that influenced a generation of musicians and fans. Of course their life ...

Took my first trip to the Stan Mansion last night for some rock n roll, quite a strange place for a show, but not too shabby. It is basically a house a few blocks south of Logan Square, and is just in some ballroom in this giant house. It has the same "place where they hold prom" look to it that Logan Square Auditorium has, and I think they do hold gala events and stuff there. It was odd for sure, but kind of cool, you could walk around to the side of the band and see ...

Islands was awesome. It's the show that, let's say the French Kicks woke up from their nap, got excited, and reworked all of their music to be high energy. With two violinists. Honestly, it was the best show that I have seen in a long while (maybe New Pornographers/Spoon of last November - maybe even longer than that). They came on the stage and absolutely ripped every song they played and the crowd loved every second of it. The show was once again at the Granada in Dallas, and when we arrived, AWOL was onstage:

You guys may have heard some about the controversy surrounding Kanye's performance at Bonnaroo, and how shit was thrown on stage and he was being booed and all kinds of stuff. Well Kanye has posted a long response on his website to those ripping on him for the Bonnaroo situation, basically saying they fucked him on the stage setup and the time slot, which caused the now infamous delay. I don't doubt that his stage setup is insane, and festivals have never been a real custom stage friendly kind of environment. It will be interesting to see ...

Even though Berman & Co. may have originally refused to play live for a long time, that time is over, and the Silver Jews are back on tour again. I am a huge fan of the new album "Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea", and never having seen them live before I am looking forward to checking them out. The full tour date list from Brooklyn Vegan...

The Hideout has announced the initial lineup for their annual block party over on their website. I was at the block party last year to see.....bloc party oddly enough, and it was pretty solid, and it looks like they are bringing some incredibly solid acts to the party again this year, with New Pornographers, Neko Case and Black Mountain (awesome) already on the lineup. I have seen both New Pornographers and Black Mountain earlier this year and both are certainly worth checking out (Neko was injured and unable to play with the Pornos at the Riviera though). ...

So here we have the second Hulk movie, starring Ed Norton and Liv Tyler, and while the movie is not bad, and an improvement on the first Hulk movie, there are some issues I have with this movie. Now I'm not entirely sure why they made this movie, aside from just simply setting up the Avengers thing. The first Hulk movie was bad, but it's not like this movie blows it away or all of a sudden makes me love Hulk. Quite the opposite in fact, as now I am fairly bitter towards the Hulk after sitting ...

I have to admit that I am a Coldplay fan. I loved Parachutes, and with Rush of Blood to the Head, I really felt like the band put the extra emphasis/sound/depth on their already good songwriting that they needed in order to make Parachutes a more complete record. I think X&Y was a disappointment, and the most troubling to me was that the only song on that record which I could say was really good, Talk, was the only song on that record which wasn't wholly written by Chris Martin (I also love the video for Talk - Spaceships? Alien Robot?! Bad ass.) I ...

I have been meaning to do a monday post on Jens for quite a while, as I have been a big fan of this album ever since I picked it up. I'm not sure Rheinborg and I will ever live down missing Jens' show in Dallas while trying to go see MSTRKRFT, as I have since become a big fan of Jens to where I really wonder what the hell we were thinking (we were wasted so maybe that played a part in it). Anyway, this is another great pop gem from a Swedish singer/songwriter, which, like a ...
