Well as you fine people can see the site is back in some ways, though it has time-traveled back to August, 2008. This should be a solution for the time being and then when I fix the back content hopefully we will get everything back (I have copies of everything from the main blog). Stay tuned.

Well I am in the process of moving so I can't do any proper website updates for a little while, but in the meantime, I started a twitter for the site here and I will update with stuff from Pitchfork today, and also from Lollapalooza in a couple weekends when that happens. I also have a lot of my photo blogging still going on here. Once I get stuff organized next week I should be able to get some photos from the preview night and Pitchfork up.

The Smiths - The Smiths - Rough Trade - 1984
Well, somewhat inspired by this forum post, I thought I would try to cover some of the albums on the list here on the Throwback Thursday feature. First I thought I would hit up one of my favorite bands ever, and one that I feel that their influence is very poignant and prevalent in today's indie music scene. Wolf Parade is just one of those bands that is just really fucking in the zone right now, with a superb album that is my favorite of '08 so far, building buzz around said album, and a big ole tour to go out and blow some minds, and they showed their prowess once again last night at the House of Blues in downtown Chicago. First they had the countdown last night, which revealed another countdown of sorts to a BBC radio show this afternoon, and the big reveal finally is a new single 'Mercury'. It is certainly a different sound for them, with a driving drum beat, brassy horns, and a lot more voice modification on Kele's voice than usual. Headed up to the Beat Kitchen last night for some tunage from Welsh rockers People In Planes. You may remember when I saw these guys a few months ago in the weirdest concert venue ever, the Cubby Bear, but they managed to put on a good show despite the circumstances. I have always been a huge fan of their debut album "As Far As The Eye Can See", and now they are back in the US touring on their new record "Beyond the Horizon". Last night they put on another solid performance.

Well I don't have too much planned in terms of the throwback this week because of the holiday festivities, so in honor of the great J Mascis and Dinosaur Jr. hitting Pitchfork Music Fest here in Chicago in a few weeks I thought I would throw out another homage to one of his earlier albums. One of the great new discoveries for me earlier this year was Ra Ra Riot when I saw them opening for The Cribs at Double Door, and I was really impressed with both their stage energy and their songs. I was instantly converted into a fan, and now they have announced a slew of tour dates in support of their upcoming album "The Rhumb Line" (pictured above), out August 19th on Barsuk Records, which is one of the main albums I am looking forward to this summer/fall. So here’s a little album I’ve been wanting to write about for some time, but didn’t know how to proceed. It may be due, in part, to the fact that it’s been quite a spell since my last hallucinogen-induced bender. Nonetheless, Oracular Spectacular is an encompassing album that is delightfully complex, while maintaining a lightheartedness throughout. Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser have done a very impressive of job of creating a mash up of eclectic sounds and styles in a manner that would make a Flaming Lips/David Bowie love child shed a single tear of joy.

This is a band I discovered kind of randomly several years ago, and they have since kind of disappeared and I'm not really sure what is going on with them, if anything anymore.
