With the greatness of the Pitchfork Music Fest coming up next weekend, I thought I would throw some fuel on the hype fire for it with some of the bands that will be blowing our minds come time for the festival. I already covered some more Dinosaur Jr. last Thursday so let's hit up some of the other acts.

This is a band I discovered kind of randomly several years ago, and they have since kind of disappeared and I'm not really sure what is going on with them, if anything anymore. They are a Norweigian band who released their last album back in 2004, and have played a few concerts recently in Norway but nothing major, and I haven't really seen any official word on a new album or anything really. The singer Erlend Øye was working in another band, The Whitest Boy Alive, whom I'm not that familiar with, but what I have heard has ...

I have been meaning to do a monday post on Jens for quite a while, as I have been a big fan of this album ever since I picked it up. I'm not sure Rheinborg and I will ever live down missing Jens' show in Dallas while trying to go see MSTRKRFT, as I have since become a big fan of Jens to where I really wonder what the hell we were thinking (we were wasted so maybe that played a part in it). Anyway, this is another great pop gem from a Swedish singer/songwriter, which, like a ...

Well, as you know, the US Open was tied and sent to a playoff by (who else) Tiger with a putt on the 72nd hole of the tournament yesterday, so they are playing the 18 hole playoff right now actually. Tiger's performance was really probably the most impressive one I've ever seen from him with the way he played on Friday and Saturday. Sunday he wasn't that great but Mediate wasn't able to close out unfortunately, so today it continues.

Well, I wasn't really sure what to post today, so I decided to post a little snippet from one of the best live show recordings I have heard in a long time. It is a little bit old, coming from April of 2005, but seriously the last live show recording I was really this obsessed with was Bloc Party's Black Session from the same year. This is The National around the time that "Alligator" came out, so it includes songs from that album as well as the "Cherry Tree EP". I dunno what it is about this ...

Well I didn't really plan out much for Mix Tape Monday this week due to unrelated circumstances so I thought I would drop on you guys a little bit from a small band out in Cali that I came upon through a random series of links leading me to their myspace page. I dug what I heard on the myspace so I snagged their EP and I really dig it. From what I remember reading these guys seemed a little burned out on the business end of the "scene" and were kind of trying to find their way ...

Of course today is Memorial Day, and naturally we want to give thanks to all the veterans past and present who have sacrificed and given their lives in the name of freedom and for all of us Americans. We are all in your debt and we salute you. Everyone I encourage you today to give some thanks to the troops overseas and those who have fallen, and to do something to commemorate their memory today. The picture I have put above is from the Punchbowl in Hawaii, and I still remember when going there a few years ...

We have got one of my favorite live bands to see on the lineup for today. Now, I will go ahead and warn you guys that this is instrumental, and it is surf music, even though these guys are from Nashville and wear Mexican Wrestling masks. Don't believe me? Observe:
I have seen these guys live a few times, and it is always a great show, albeit quite different. They rock out, they speak very, very fast in Spanish at the crowd, and they have choreographed guitar moves throughout the show. If you ever get a ...

Well in honor of the fact that I will be journeying up to Schuba's to see the Swedish songstresses Lykke Li and El Perro Del Mar, I figured I would give a shout out (hah) to fellow Swedes the Shout Out Louds. Marcus and I saw these guys at Logan Square Auditorium (the place where they hold prom) last year while quite wasted, but they were completely awesome nonetheless. This album from last year is certainly one of my favorites of 2007, and I really wish they would put together another US tour soon because they are great. ...

Welcome back to the Mix Tape Monday. Again, no rhyme or reason, just whatever the fuck I want to put up. If anyone has any requests on future segments then feel free to leave something in the comments. For this week we will cover a band I happened onto by chance a few years back, and has been out of the scene for a little bit, but sounds like they are making a comeback this year.
These guys have an album from 2003 called "The Strangest Things", and one that came out after this one in 2005 called ...

Well I am right in the midst of exams right now, and it sucks, so I don't really have anything super eloquent to say here. I decided to throw you guys some Honeycut. These guys are from the Bay area, and this album came out in 2006 and it is just greatness. I discovered them at the Download festival last year here in Chicago. They were playing maybe the second slot of the day, and there were maybe 20 people there when they went on, but they were awesome. Just great stage vibe, very danceable ...

Well today I am going to throw out there a band with an upcoming album that I only found out about yesterday. I stumbled upon the greatness of Electric President via iTunes a few years ago, and really enjoyed the songs, but didn't really hear anything from or about them since then. Apparently it is a bit of a basement side project for these guys in Florida, but the good news is that there is a new album coming out June 25th called "Sleep Well" on German label Morr Music. They would most quickly be compared to ...

Well, I really didn't plan on doing another weekly segment, but I will give it the old college try. Of course we have concert reviews and new albums, and then I have Throwback Thursday for older albums and stuff, but then there is this whole time period in between, like from 2000-2007 that is not included in either of those, so I decided I'm going to do Mix Tape Mondays damn it, for randomness I want to post with absolutely no reason. As for whether it will last, we shall see. So even though it is Mix ...
