After the greatness of the September concerts, we indulge in the greatness of some extra spooky October concerts. We got to see a few new venues, and fortunately managed to stay away from Park West. We are starting to have some cooler weather around town, which will inevitably result in more drinking, just ask Russia. I actually wrote this first half of this a while ago, intending to add the rest, but I have been mega-slow doing it, so here is part one with part two TBA. So off we go...
Of Montreal - Metro
Daigle decided to ...

Incredible. Well last night I journeyed uptown to go see Jimmy Eat World at the Riviera Theater on Racine, and wow. Greatness. Over the summer Marcus, Vuminlager and the spirit of Daigle and I went to go see an acoustic/rarities show of Jimmy which was really awesome, but I have to say this definitely trumped it. There is just something about face-melting rock that keeps me getting up in the morning. They opened with the new single "Big Casino" and it was just one great song after another from there. They hit us ...

Well September has been quite a month for seeing shows. Of course we saw the end of the festival season with ACL a couple of weeks ago, as well as Snoop Dogg and the Shins at the Download Festival, but these were not the only things going on this month. There were some great Chicago shows in September outside of the big events and here is a wrap up of the best and the worst from September, as well as a look ahead at October.
VHS or Beta - Subterranean
I hadn't really heard too much of VHS or Beta ...

After two days of rocking, we picked ourselves up to bring ourselves back to Zilker Park for even more. JHall's friend Caroline was in tow for day 3, so us 3 musketeers called back the cabbie of the weekend to bring us back down to the place of rock. We actually had an extra wristband left over for Sunday, and in a brilliant move, we traded it to the cabbie for cab fare. There was no rocky top game to get in our way today, today was wall to wall rock.
Upon arrival, long time indie-rockers ...

Upon awaking on Saturday I had a semi-panic attack again about my iPhone, only to realize we had already slayed that dragon on Friday night. We eased on into the day with some delicious IHOP, and then we headed down to ACL at about 1:30 or so. Most of the daytime lineup on Saturday didn't consist of bands we were huge on, so JHall promptly ventured off to try to watch Rocky Top play the Dirty Gators. He got directions from the cabbie that were apparently completely wrong or something, so he got a nice walking tour ...

When hackey sacks and weed meet face-melting rock, you know it is festival time. Well I have returned from the greatness of ACL, and needless to say there was so much rock, it just wasn't even funny. I have decided to basically do a post for each day of the fest because I came up with too much crap to say about each day. Just as an aside, I think I enjoyed myself more here than at Lollapalooza, but that is probably largely due to 2 things. 1. I only saw basically 2 half-days of Lollapalooza, ...

I will hopefully get more of my pictures off my phone at some point and post them, but yesterday I checked out the download festival at Charter One on Northerly Island and all around a pretty awesome show by all. I left for a little while in the middle to go meet up with Hornino at the Jazz Fest where we heard a stirring jazz rendition of the Pierce Brosnan classic "Dante's Peak".
Anyway pictured above is the greatness of the Shins last night, rocking out of course. The first band I saw on the day was Honeycut, who ...

Last weekend, after moving all day Friday, I partook of a little bit of the greatness that was Lollapalooza 2007. This of course used to be a touring festival but has now become a weekend 3 day festival in Grant Park in Chicago on the lakefront a la ACL. We had some rain, had some laughs, but most of all, we rocked. Here is my mini-breakdown of the bands I saw.
Before I go into this though, let me first explain the extreme amounts of conflicts going on with this festival. First of all they ...
