Walter Meego - Voyager - Almost Gold - 2008
It's been a little while since I have reviewed a nice 80s dance party throwback kind of album here on DBF, but fear not, as long as they continue to be made, I will continue to listen to them! Anyway, today we have the latest release from Chicago electro-duo Walter Meego, and I have to say I am really digging this album. I saw these guys open for VHS or Beta last year at Subterranean and I thought they were pretty good, if not a little bit all over the ...

New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies - Factory Records - 1983
Well I realize with my last two throwbacks I'm picking extremely popular/well received albums, but even still, I think this is another one that the general (ie. non music nerd) populous is not that familiar with, but it is first of all my favorite New Order album, and certainly one of the best albums ever I think. Of course I refer to the uber-brilliance of "Power, Corruption & Lies".

The Teenagers - Reality Check - Beggars XI Recording - 2008
Well I was hoping to post about these guys after seeing their show this week at the Abbey Pub, but since it is exams for me and the Abbey Pub is way north, I decided not to head up there. Anyway, since I missed going to their show, I thought I would do a post about their album. These guys are part of the 80's retro new wave renaissance going on in music now. Their music certainly has that synthed out dance rock sound that we have ...

Ventured up to the Vic last night to check out England's Hot Chip throw the dance music all over the place, and it was a damn good time. Opener was Free Blood, and they were pretty solid, and they even came out and joined Hot Chip on stage for a few of their songs later on. Hot Chip came out to thunderous excitement from the crowd, as the sound check/setup for them took quite a long time and everyone was a little on edge.
Once they came out and fired it up however, the house was jumping and it ...

M83 - Saturdays=Youth - Mute - 2008
Certainly the most talked about release this week in music has to be the new M83 album called "Saturdays=Youth". Now before I even go into talking about this album, take a long, hard look at the cover above. See that? That is what this album sounds like. You don't need any words when you look at that, right there. I mean, the Sixteen Candles/Pretty in Pink girl is right there on the cover. Anyway, M83 is basically Anthony Gonzalez, a guy from France, and the previous album "Before ...

Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours - Modular Records - 2008
Went and picked this bad boy up in Lincoln Park today (couldn't find it downtown yesterday) and I am a fan for sure. Recently in music there has been a rather large movement of bands that are kind of modern takes on 80s sounds (The Teenagers, M83, Hot Chip), and these guys certainly fall into that arena. This album just has 80s dance party written all over it, and it just has a sweet ass groove from beginning to end. It probably trends more to the cleaner ...
