Wolf Parade is just one of those bands that is just really fucking in the zone right now, with a superb album that is my favorite of '08 so far, building buzz around said album, and a big ole tour to go out and blow some minds, and they showed their prowess once again last night at the House of Blues in downtown Chicago. They are one of those bands that I would put in the indie 'elite' as far as bands that pretty much bring solid gold with everything they do, and that certainly includes their live show. ...

Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer - Sub-Pop - 2008
At the start of the new year 2008 there were really two main albums that I was anticipating in the upcoming year more than any others: Wolf Parade's new album, which came to be known as "At Mount Zoomer", and Of Montreal's record, which will drop in October. So even before this album was announced I was heavily anticipating it, having just seen the band back in September where they played the majority of these songs, and they just blew my mind. Well, I'm happy to say that they ...

Thanks to Jill for this one. I had heard several times about Radiohead covering this song in soundcheck, but hadn't actually heard the cover yet, and it is pretty good. This is probably my fave song of the year so far, and my fave album also.

Truly a great show by these guys last night at the Empty Bottle. They are playing there again tonight, so I recommend that you get off your arse and snag some tickets for tonight's show and go see them if you can. These guys have been getting quite a lot of buzz this year, but it wasn't until I snagged their album that I really got into their stuff. The album is incredibly solid, and they sure rocked many faces off last night.

Amazing. That really sums it all up right there. My mind was thoroughly blown and my face extensively melted from the rock bomb that Radiohead dropped on us Sunday night. For the last night of their first leg of the US tour, they played the Superpages.com Center (formerly Smirnoff) in Dallas next to Fair Park. Back in February or so, I stayed up all night to get waste tickets for the show, and it certainly paid off as our seats were pretty awesome. We were about 5 rows back from the pit area in the ...

Portishead - Third - Mercury Records - 2008
This past week saw a return after a long absence of Portishead with the release of their third album appropriately titled "Third". They released their previous two albums in the 90s, and were part of a group of bands that were all lumped into the area of "trip hop" or "acid jazz" around that same time. I always saw them as head and shoulders above the rest of the bands that were dubbed "trip hop" and their music certainly had more substance than a lot of those other bands, and a ...

So on Thursday at 8:00, I went to an advance screening of the new Robert Downey Junior (not pictured above) driven Iron Man, also starring Gwynneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard and The Dude...but bald. First of all, this movie is just plain awesome. This movie is in no way a kid's superhero movie...not even a little bit, and for that I am thankful. Think how much more awesome X2 was than X-Men - all because the themes and characters all grew up and started playing like adults in X2. This is not more apparent about Stark/Iron Man ...
