Well I am in the process of moving so I can't do any proper website updates for a little while, but in the meantime, I started a twitter for the site here and I will update with stuff from Pitchfork today, and also from Lollapalooza in a couple weekends when that happens. I also have a lot of my photo blogging still going on here. Once I get stuff organized next week I should be able to get some photos from the preview night and Pitchfork up.
As for yesterday at Pitchfork, I wasn't there the entire day thanks ...

Wolf Parade is just one of those bands that is just really fucking in the zone right now, with a superb album that is my favorite of '08 so far, building buzz around said album, and a big ole tour to go out and blow some minds, and they showed their prowess once again last night at the House of Blues in downtown Chicago. They are one of those bands that I would put in the indie 'elite' as far as bands that pretty much bring solid gold with everything they do, and that certainly includes their live show. ...

Headed up to the Beat Kitchen last night for some tunage from Welsh rockers People In Planes. You may remember when I saw these guys a few months ago in the weirdest concert venue ever, the Cubby Bear, but they managed to put on a good show despite the circumstances. I have always been a huge fan of their debut album "As Far As The Eye Can See", and now they are back in the US touring on their new record "Beyond the Horizon". Last night they put on another solid performance.

Took my first trip to the Stan Mansion last night for some rock n roll, quite a strange place for a show, but not too shabby. It is basically a house a few blocks south of Logan Square, and is just in some ballroom in this giant house. It has the same "place where they hold prom" look to it that Logan Square Auditorium has, and I think they do hold gala events and stuff there. It was odd for sure, but kind of cool, you could walk around to the side of the band and see ...

The Hideout has announced the initial lineup for their annual block party over on their website. I was at the block party last year to see.....bloc party oddly enough, and it was pretty solid, and it looks like they are bringing some incredibly solid acts to the party again this year, with New Pornographers, Neko Case and Black Mountain (awesome) already on the lineup. I have seen both New Pornographers and Black Mountain earlier this year and both are certainly worth checking out (Neko was injured and unable to play with the Pornos at the Riviera though). ...

Well it has been a crazy morning of website errors and whatnot, but I am happy to say our happy little DBF group will be rolling to exactly the shows we wanted to go to, the Rogue Wave on Friday and the BSS on Saturday (with Yeasayer opening). It is a good thing that Sunday seems to be the slowest day of the festival for people I like since I will most likely be worn the fuck out after all of this madness. Should be good times though. Anyway, it seemed like the Schuba's shows sold out ...

Not too long after the schedule was announced for Lollapalooza, now news comes down about the Lollapalooza aftershows, and the news is pretty damn good. The list is altogether incredible, and I wish this was more spaced out, since you have so many incredible acts playing in the city on Saturday night. I would absolutely kill to see Okkervil in a venue like Schuba's, but with Bloc Party and BSS also playing that night, it means I probably won't see it. Check out the full list here.

Dev Hynes and his Lightspeed Champion returned to our fair city of Chicago again last night at the Empty Bottle with a full band in tow and put on a pretty damn solid show last night. If you remember when I saw him come to Chicago back in March, he didn't have the full band and played a stripped down acoustic guitar/violin set. He certainly did a very good job with that show (his first in the US), I was certainly looking forward to seeing him with the full band and he didn't disappoint.

Nada Surf, always good stuff, despite the fact I miss the old songs still. Well, we ventured up to Ribfest Chicago on Lincoln Ave for a great mix of ribs, beer and rock n roll last night. The ribs were tasty, Nada Surf was pretty solid, and as you can see from the picture above, Lincoln was extremely displeased at what has become of Illinois and the United States in the time since his passing. It is such a gigantic Lincoln head on the sign, but it isn't happy Lincoln, or even distinguished Lincoln. I would ...

Well occasionally I will venture out to a show where I have pretty much zero idea about an artist, and such was a night last night, and these guys were actually pretty solid. I have heard a few songs by Sea Wolf before, but not a whole lot, and certainly not a whole album. The song "Black Dirt" I had heard of course, and you most likely have heard it before as well, and it is a pretty good jam. I actually was more familiar with openers Jealous Girlfriends since I have heard them before and have ...

I think so far this year, Grand Archives is by far my number one guilty pleasure. I just love their album. There is no brain surgery going on here, just great songs and great grooves, and sometimes all you need is just a great song that doesn't try to give you a message or reinvent popular music. That is why I totally love these guys, and they played a small little show at the Empty Bottle last night, and I think everyone was treated to a great show.

DBF's first foray into the Pritzker Music Pavilion at Millennium Park was last night to check out the DCFC/Rogue Wave tour. The venue is actually pretty nice and the sound was pretty good even out on the lawn where we were sitting, but no one designed this thing with the intention of anyone beyond the seating area actually seeing anything on stage. From pretty much everywhere on the lawn you can just barely see the light fixtures sitting probably 40 feet above the stage. I guess if you were watching the symphony or something it wouldn't really ...

Rock n roll bitches. That's how it goes down. Great show last night from Islands, with just some great rocking out, and guest rappers, and a bunch of girls dancing on stage during several songs. Well done. Islands are former members of Unicorns reformed, from Canada, and they are out touring in support of their new album "Arm's Way", which is great. It is certainly one of the better straight ahead rock records so far this year. Their performance last night did not disappoint one bit either and they were in fine form dishing ...

The Chicago summer festival season has officially begun now with the Do Division Street Festival kicking it off this past weekend over in Wicker Park. I missed the Saturday lineup because of my mission out to Evanston to see Broken Social Scene, but there were some solid acts on the Sunday lineup as well that I wanted to see so I headed over to check it out. I checked out Brooklyn's Bear Hands, Scotland's Frightened Rabbit and Chicago's own 1900's. I didn't stick around for Gil Mantera or Ted Leo (since I had seen Ted Leo the ...

French dance-rockers M83 took to the stage at the Empty Bottle last night to bring their brand of 80s influenced jams to the ears of Chicago. They were pretty good I thought, though some of the songs didn't quite translate as well to the stage as others, and the crowd wasn't as dance-y as I thought they would be. Granted I was at the early bird show, so maybe the later show got crazier and more dancing was going on. All in all though it was a pretty solid show from these guys.
