Um, yeah, so holy shit you guys. Ben wasn't lying when he gushed about the awesomeness of Wolf Parade when he saw them in Chicago. Wolf Parade is incredible live. I didn't have my proper camera on me at this show (just the iPhone - above, which is taking increasingly out of focus photos, for some reason), so I'll let Ben do a full review of this show when he gets his computer up and running again from the move, but I want to encourage any of you who are in cities that Wolf Parade is destined for on this ...

Marcus and I went to the former the Gypsy Tea Room (now The Door) to see Maps & Atlases on Friday night, and it's apparent that the owners of the Door have done NOTHING to improve that venue; it's still the same terrible sounding, awful dump that it always was. At any rate, Maps & Atlases was very sharp and highly entertaining, and you can check out all of my photos from their show here. This was my first exposure to M&A, other than clips on YouTube, and these guys have an interesting, rather ecclectic/experimental sound, but it comes together in a nice ...

Islands was awesome. It's the show that, let's say the French Kicks woke up from their nap, got excited, and reworked all of their music to be high energy. With two violinists. Honestly, it was the best show that I have seen in a long while (maybe New Pornographers/Spoon of last November - maybe even longer than that). They came on the stage and absolutely ripped every song they played and the crowd loved every second of it. The show was once again at the Granada in Dallas, and when we arrived, AWOL was onstage:

Last night I headed out to the venerable Granada theater here in Dallas with Jen, Jill and Angie to go see Headlights, Black Joe Lewis and the Mates of State. Find all of my photos from the show, including larger versions of the ones posted in this entry here. I confess that I was there for Headlights, but obviously stayed to check out the other two since Headlights was the very first band. I am very familiar with Headlights' recent work as I just posted a review of their latest: Some Racing, Some Stopping. I really do enjoy that record, ...

Hello again from Dallas, Douchebagfaces! Went out to the Granada last night for Frightned Rabbit and French Kicks with Rheinborg and Jill. You can view all of the photos from last night here. All three of us really wanted to see Frightened Rabbit so we got there early...like so early the opening act's opening act was still onstage finishing their set:

Amazing. That really sums it all up right there. My mind was thoroughly blown and my face extensively melted from the rock bomb that Radiohead dropped on us Sunday night. For the last night of their first leg of the US tour, they played the Superpages.com Center (formerly Smirnoff) in Dallas next to Fair Park. Back in February or so, I stayed up all night to get waste tickets for the show, and it certainly paid off as our seats were pretty awesome. We were about 5 rows back from the pit area in the ...

Sorry to double up on info concerning the Good Records in store, but this gives you a quick breakdown so deal with it! There's not a whole lot of great stuff happening this weekend, if I missed something that you think should be on here then say something in the comments. I realize Monday isn't part of the weekend but I wanted to remind you kiddies about the Stephen Malkmus show.

Rheinborg also did a post on this show, so check that out because mine is not the same. First, Film School was ok, but they only played like 6 songs and just sort of took off..... Sure, there were like 18 people watching them but boo hoo, Film School. You're there to open. Open the show with more than 20 minutes of music.
This reviewer, from Guide Live, wasn't too crazy about the show, and I sort of agree with some of what he is saying. I felt like for the first half, British Sea Power just went through the motions, ...

The floor was literally shaking at The Loft on Friday night. British Sea Power and Film School both put on a great show. We got to The Loft around 9:30 and there wasn't many people there yet. My immediate reaction was, "Here comes another long drunk night at The Loft." Especially considering the night when Bvaz and I went to MSTRKRFT and waited around until we both decided we were too drunk to stay any longer. But, things ended up kicking off in a timely manner.
Film School opened things up and I was ...

Marcus and I went out to the Texas Rangers' home opener vs. the Baltimore Orioles yesterday, and just as last year, Opening Day is a real treat. Everyone is fired up, the stadium is completely full (this photo was the pregame festivities and not eveyone had filtered in yet), and this year the weather was just about ideal. Temperature in the mid 70s, though with quite a few clouds but the sun did manage to break through for periods of time.
I love the Rangers, but the Rangers stink. Opening Day was no difference with Jason Jennings getting absolutely destroyed, allowing ...

Last night I was enjoying a before bed smoke when I heard the familiar scream of police sirens, I watch a lot of Wildest Police Videos. It turns out I got to watch the live version last night. As some of you may know the Dallas and Mesquite PDs were in involved in a high speed chase that started in Mesquite and ended in downtown Dallas...50 yards from my apartment!
As the sirens got louder I could also hear the distinctive rumble of a big truck coming my direction. I looked toward the highway exit ramp and ...

So Marcus and I went to the House of Blues to see Tokyo Police Club and Eagle Seagull. I had been to the Ballroom there many times, but had never been to the Cambridge Room. The Cambridge Room is really small and intimate and super cool. Of course, this inspires a certain amount of rowdiness from the crowd as I think that some people believe that since they are so close, they are actually a part of the show by shouting out jokes or something, but I digress.
Eagle Seagull was already playing when we got there, but we ended up ...
