Dev Hynes and his Lightspeed Champion returned to our fair city of Chicago again last night at the Empty Bottle with a full band in tow and put on a pretty damn solid show last night. If you remember when I saw him come to Chicago back in March, he didn't have the full band and played a stripped down acoustic guitar/violin set. He certainly did a very good job with that show (his first in the US), I was certainly looking forward to seeing him with the full band and he didn't disappoint.

I think so far this year, Grand Archives is by far my number one guilty pleasure. I just love their album. There is no brain surgery going on here, just great songs and great grooves, and sometimes all you need is just a great song that doesn't try to give you a message or reinvent popular music. That is why I totally love these guys, and they played a small little show at the Empty Bottle last night, and I think everyone was treated to a great show.

French dance-rockers M83 took to the stage at the Empty Bottle last night to bring their brand of 80s influenced jams to the ears of Chicago. They were pretty good I thought, though some of the songs didn't quite translate as well to the stage as others, and the crowd wasn't as dance-y as I thought they would be. Granted I was at the early bird show, so maybe the later show got crazier and more dancing was going on. All in all though it was a pretty solid show from these guys.

Truly a great show by these guys last night at the Empty Bottle. They are playing there again tonight, so I recommend that you get off your arse and snag some tickets for tonight's show and go see them if you can. These guys have been getting quite a lot of buzz this year, but it wasn't until I snagged their album that I really got into their stuff. The album is incredibly solid, and they sure rocked many faces off last night.

VHS or Beta continues their touring off of their album from last year "Bring on the Comets" and made a stop into the Empty Bottle last night with fellow dance rockers Tigercity. This was a pretty good matching of musical styles for an opener/headliner. Tigercity was pretty good, they certainly have a kind of R&B/Disco meets rock kind of sound, and the crowd was getting some dancing going during their set.

Well as you can tell from the picture I ended up pretty much on top of the stage for this show last night, and my ears are still ringing from it. Not the smartest move I ever made, but this is rock and roll bitches. Anyway, I think it was even more crowded at the Empty Bottle for these guys than it was on Saturday for Black Mountain. I pretty much missed all of the opener, but whatever, I was there for BSP.

Black Mountain rules. There I said it. And many times the crowd was echoing the same sentiment at last night's show at the Empty Bottle. I walked up to about 20 people standing outside who apparently decided they didn't need to buy tickets before showing up, and of course it was sold out.
