As he has never had a show in Dallas, my ony exposure to Lightspeed Champion prior to picking up this album was our own DBF'com's prodigious level of love aimed at Dev and Company. I had sampled a couple of the MP3s from this blog and watched his SXSW acoustic performance, all of which I loved as well. If you can call DBF's coverage of Lightspeed Champion hype, LC is likely the most hyped artist on this blog. Dev Hynes and his Lightspeed Champion returned to our fair city of Chicago again last night at the Empty Bottle with a full band in tow and put on a pretty damn solid show last night. If you remember when I saw him come to Chicago back in March, he didn't have the full band and played a stripped down acoustic guitar/violin set. He certainly did a very good job with that show (his first in the US), I was certainly looking forward to seeing him with the full band and he didn't disappoint.

Thanks to Music Slut for this. I watched this last night, and although as usual the sound was terrible (as it always seems to be on the talk shows, esp. Conan), it was cool to see him with the full band, and I'm hoping the rest of this US tour includes the full band as well. Next Friday at Empty Bottle I will be there motherfuckers!

Lightspeed Champion has some tour dates upcoming this fall in the US. I saw Dev on his first US jaunt here back in March, and it was great. He had a duo acoustic thing going that time, and I don't know if this tour will be like that one, or if it will be a full band. Either way, go see these shows, because either way it will be awesome. His album from earlier this year is just incredible, and one of my faves this year so far, so check that out as well.

Saw this over on The Music Slut and I just had to post it, because it is a really beautiful version of a really great song. The more that Dev (Lightspeed Champion) comes out with the more impressed I get with him, and also the more glad I was right there at his first ever US show here in Chicago. Well last night I went to check out Lightspeed Champion, a solo project of UK rocker Dev Hynes, at this place I had never been, AV-aerie, out in the middle of nowhere west of downtown. Anyway, the venue was pretty cool, but very strange.
