Throwback Thursday: Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque
Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque - Creation Records - 1991 So old school, and while this album may not quite be top to bottom as completely solid as the past few I have put on there, it still is a great album. It is very much classic of the time period, has that definitive early-90s alterna-rock sound of basic Marshall-amplified guitar overdubs and solos over sing-songy vocals. I didn't really realize this either, but according to wikipedia this album beat out Nirvana's classic "Nevermind" to win album of the year from SPIN magazine. Even though Nirvana was never as ...

Frightened Rabbit - The Midnight Organ Fight

Frightened Rabbit - The Midnight Organ Fight
After watching Frightened Rabbit I had to go buy their latest album, which came out in mid April. In addition to Daigle's comments I must add the following: Frightened Rabbit are my favorite surprise of the year. I knew nothing about them, save a listen on their myspace, going into the show. I was completely blown away. Incredibly tight and energized live show with great banter as Daigle mentioned.

French Kicks/Frightened Rabbit - Granada - 6/4/08
Hello again from Dallas, Douchebagfaces! Went out to the Granada last night for Frightned Rabbit and French Kicks with Rheinborg and Jill. You can view all of the photos from last night here. All three of us really wanted to see Frightened Rabbit so we got there early...like so early the opening act's opening act was still onstage finishing their set:

Do Division Street Festival - 6.1.08
The Chicago summer festival season has officially begun now with the Do Division Street Festival kicking it off this past weekend over in Wicker Park. I missed the Saturday lineup because of my mission out to Evanston to see Broken Social Scene, but there were some solid acts on the Sunday lineup as well that I wanted to see so I headed over to check it out. I checked out Brooklyn's Bear Hands, Scotland's Frightened Rabbit and Chicago's own 1900's. I didn't stick around for Gil Mantera or Ted Leo (since I had seen Ted Leo the ...

Throwback Thursday: Idlewild - Hope Is Important
Idlewild - Hope Is Important - Food Records - 1998 As we continue on the journey through the classics, now we come to another great band, Idlewild. Idlewild is now up to having released 5 full albums, and this year came out with a greatest hits/b-sides release, but this album here was their very first full length release. They had released an EP called "Captain" before this came out with 6 songs on it, but this was the album that really kicked it off for them. Now the later albums certainly get more attention ("100 Broken Windows", "The ...

Mix Tape Monday: Roddy Woomble - My Secret Is My Silence

Mix Tape Monday: Roddy Woomble - My Secret Is My Silence
Well, I really didn't plan on doing another weekly segment, but I will give it the old college try. Of course we have concert reviews and new albums, and then I have Throwback Thursday for older albums and stuff, but then there is this whole time period in between, like from 2000-2007 that is not included in either of those, so I decided I'm going to do Mix Tape Mondays damn it, for randomness I want to post with absolutely no reason. As for whether it will last, we shall see. So even though it is Mix ...
